Best Cities For Restaurant Jobs

There are restaurants all over the world, so if you are a professional chef, you probably won’t have trouble getting a job wherever you are, but where are the best opportunities?

The answer to this question depends on what kind of restaurant you want to work in. There are chain and quick service places everywhere, but the best places are often in the biggest cities.

 

New York City

The restaurant mecca in the United States, you’ll find restaurants of all types in New York. Different cuisines, dining styles, price points; you’ll find everything you can possibly think of here. The most renowned and acclaimed chefs have opened restaurants in New York because there are so many people who live and visit each year.

Keep in mind that because there are so many famous restaurants, that there is fierce competition for jobs and many chefs even work for free to prove they are serious about the job. Even if you don’t plan on staying in the city for long, working in a Manhattan restaurant can have enormously great effects on your future career.

Los Angeles

Also a great place for restaurants, Los Angeles is a great place for anyone who wants to work in cutting edge dining. If you lean towards trendy foods, or health conscience fare, you’ll do great in Los Angeles. Most trends start in California, and many in LA so if you’re looking to be part of the next big thing, this is a great place to start.

Los Angeles is also full of Hollywood celebrities and the rich and famous, so if you are star struck and want the super famous to eat food you’ve prepared, this is the right place. If you’re looking to meet them, being a server or host is a better bet, but you better be able to beat the competition for these jobs because it is fierce.

Las Vegas

If you’re looking for money, flashiness and excitement, look no further than the gambling capital of the world. You’ll find high end restaurants in all the big casinos, and almost all of the hot shot celebrity chefs have made homes with their restaurants here as well. Like New York and LA, there is fierce competition here as well, but because there are so many restaurants you can surely find somewhere to start.

New Orleans

One of the best cities in the US for restaurants, you’ll be hard pressed to beat New Orleans for authentic Cajun food, as well as classic southern food. Lots of small and local restaurants make this a great place for finding fun and interesting jobs and meeting unique people as well.

International

Of course, there are many great cities outside the United States that are great for restaurants.  If you’re looking for the best in fine dining and French food, look no further than Paris, France for the most authentic five star, critically acclaimed restaurants out there. If you’re a baker, I can’t think of a better place to learn than Paris.

Barcelona, Rome, and London are also great places to get world renowned experience in the finest restaurants in the world. Of course don’t overlook smaller cities if you’re looking to learn how to make truly authentic international fare. You’ll find much more competition in bigger cities, and they’ll be much more touristy as well.

There are fabulous restaurants all over the world that will hep you gain experience and expertise no matter which aspect of restaurant industry you choose. As they say, the world is your oyster.
